Bethune’s captors wore the appearance of police authority while overpowering him and taking him away. Their identities remain central to establishing who carried out the abduction. WSVN reported that they forced him into a silver sedan and drove off with a rear door swinging open.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office says Bethune was abducted at 14040 Biscayne Boulevard, where North Miami police responded to reports of a shooting around midnight on October 4. At approximately 7:25 that morning, a sheriff’s captain found Bethune beside the roadway near Southwest 216th Street and 189th Avenue. He had gunshot wounds. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators also found a deliberately burned vehicle near Southwest 248th Street and 157th Avenue. The Sheriff’s Office said it matched the vehicle driven by the abductors, linking the burned car to the investigation into Bethune’s death. That reported match gives investigators a vehicle to trace alongside the men captured taking him.
The Sheriff’s Office requested information about the suspects’ identities and whereabouts in its October 5 release. Atlanta Black Star reported on October 11 that no suspects had been publicly named and no arrests announced. Who fired the shots that killed Bethune remains unresolved in the available reporting.
For Bethune’s family, the footage shows him fighting to escape before he was found dead hours later. The answers still owed concern the men who took him, what happened after the car left, and who killed him. Establishing that chain of responsibility is the accountability his death demands.
